In order to be a member of NRHH, you must be a student who currently lives on campus and plans to reside in Campus Housing for the next two semesters, has completed at least twelve semester hours at UIC, and must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5/4.0 scale.
We are also looking for student who have been active members of the Residence Life community (either within your floor, your hall, RHA, or any other organization that falls under the Campus Housing department) and the campus at large.
Once inducted into NRHH, members are required to earn 18 points throughout the semester. Points are earned by attending chapter meetings, writing Of-The-Month (OTM) award nominations, and participating in service events.
It’s easy — just download our application (Word .doc). Applications are accepting throughout the year, and inductions are held towards the end of each Spring semester.
First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to look over the application materials for the National Residence Hall Honorary. We are excited to be working with student leaders from all over the campus community, and we really hope that you will consider applying to be a member of our organization. NRHH is comprised of the top 1% of student leaders on campus in all areas of their lives – including academic, social, and leadership involvement.
In order to recognize these outstanding students, our chapter tries several different ways to acknowledge the hard work that is carried out daily within the community. One of these ways is through the Of-The-Month (OTM) Award. An OTM is a written document that details the work of a student, faculty member, advisor, or program in helping to improve the community that is being built in the residence life program. We also look to host different banquets and events that highlight student leadership and student involvement.
We understand the Campus Housing mission in which each student will be an active member of their community and their surroundings, and we strive to make sure that we reinforce the ideals of student involvement within the campus community. We recognize that some of the strongest students at UIC come from our residence halls, and we want to ensure that these students are receiving the acknowledgement they deserve.
We are also committed to giving back to the area in which we live. We do this through organizing a variety of service projects each semester, including volunteering at the WTTW Phone-a-thon, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Chicago Marathon, the AIDS Walk/Run, and many more. We also believe that the best way for a student to learn about giving back to the community is through actual service. We think that, as students, we have so much knowledge that can be gained by talking with every day people, and that there is a classroom of life just beyond our door.
We hope that you are interested in our mission, and that you will choose to join us.
