For upperclass undergraduate students (incoming first year students
are not eligible). This co-ed building just opened in August 2001
and is home to 320 students. While most residents occupy 4-bedroom,
4 person apartments, there are a number of 1 and 2 person apartments
as well. All students have individual private bedrooms, and apartments
are equipped with full kitchens and private bathrooms. There are
extensive common areas on all floors, as well as a Faculty in Residence
and a Resident Director on the 4th floor.
The Board of Trustees has named our South Campus residence halls
after two former student affairs administrators who worked to change
the character of UIC from a commuter campus to one with a substantial
resident population. Our first South Campus residence, previously
called Maxwell Street Residence is now Marie Robinson Hall, named
for the previous Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (from 1992-94).
She rose from head of the department of medical social work to Associate
Dean of her college and was named Vice Chancellor in 1992. She was
the first African-American to achieve that rank at UIC. She died
of cancer in 1994 at the age of 58.
