The Family Housing Pilot Program
The University of Illinois at Chicago is pleased to offer a pilot program for students with families. This program is offered on the 5th Floor of Single Student Residence (SSR), and can currently accommodate 15 families. This is a wonderful opportunity for students with children to be within the university setting that puts them close to classes, resources and vibrant city life. We offer a few different living arrangements which include 2-3 bedroom apartment and suite style living. All apartments or suites come completely furnished with living and bedroom furniture. All include cooking facilities within the apartments. We offer 9 month academic year contracts and 12 month contracts. Students with 9 month contracts may request to stay during the interim periods between academic sessions for an additional fee.
About Single Student Residence (SSR)
This building is mainly for graduate and professional students, as well as for undergraduate students 24 years of age or older. In addition, the 3rd and 4th floors are for 21–23 year old undergraduates, the 16th floor is home of the Nursing House, and 5th Floor is for our Pilot Program of Family Housing. This building is suite or apartment style, with each student having an individual bedroom and sharing a kitchenette and bathroom within each unit. Each bedroom has a private telephone line (must be activated; additional fees may apply). As this building is for graduate and professional students, the entire building is intensive study.
Within the Family Housing Community one of Campus Housing’s goals, is that members would interact and be there to provide assistance and support to one another. The community provides a diverse population of different backgrounds, age ranges, marital status. There are individuals working towards completing bachelors, masters, and professional degrees living together within the community.
Family Housing 2009–2010 Rates
No meal plan included. Apartment ala carte meal cards start at $300 minimum plus a 5% service charge.
