  • What to Bring
    • Somewhere between the bare essentials and the kitchen sink is the answer! While moderation in all things is important, you do want to be comfortable.
    • Cookware
For SSR you may want to bring kitchen items (including a dish drying rack). Please read the electrical appliance guidelines below.
    • Electrical Appliances
Any electrical equipment used in the residence hall must be approved by the Underwriter's Laboratory. All campus residence halls have restrictions of 1,800 watts per individual room. No single appliance should exceed 1,000 watts.
    • Clothing
You should coordinate your wardrobe so that it will be appropriate for winter. Chicago's temperatures range from below zero to mid 50's Fahrenheit during the winter months. Bath wear, including bathrobes and sandals for the shower are essential. Washers and dryers are located in the lower level of the residential facility.

The cost is 75 cents for each wash and each dry. All washers and dryers use your i-card as a debit card. Increments of $1 may be added to your i-card via value adding machines located in the Residence Halls. You must provide laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies, as well as an iron and ironing board.
    • Valuables
In regards to those very personal and valuable necessities, we remind you that you bring them at your own risk. Since insurance for personal belongings is not available through the University, we suggest you get extended coverage through your parents' household insurance or purchase renter's insurance before arriving on campus.

Also, because it is not possible for us to serve as a "receiving agent" for any luggage or packages that you send ahead of arrival, we ask that you make arrangements for your belongings to arrive either along with you, or sometime after you arrive on campus.

Visit resphone.uic.edu to set up your new account and a 10 digit password.
Once your account has been set up you will be billed a $2 per month service charge, but only during the semester when class is in session. Each resphone account will then be disabled at the end of each semester, and will only be reactivated after it has been initiated by the student.

Once you've created your account, you will be able to pick up the residence hall phone, press "8", and input your 10 digit password. You will then be prompted to enter in the phone number you wish to dial in the format of:

      1 + area code + 7 digit number

You will be able to dial any long distance or international number that you wish. Please check the website for long distance and international calling rates. Click here to visit resphone.uic.edu.
