Frequently Asked Questions
What is the UIC Campus Housing Summer Reading Program (SRP)?
The Summer Reading Program involves all first-year resident students reading a select book during the summer and then participating in activities relating to the book, including small group discussions. Our goal is to provide new students with a common reading experience that will lead to meaningful conversations as they adjust to their new community.
What should I do before I arrive on campus?
- Read the book prior to New Student Days.
- Check the SRP web site for study guides and related information.
- Please check your email frequently for updates on the Summer Reading Program and New Student Days.
How can I get a copy of the book?
You will get a copy when you come for New Student Orientation. If you did not recieve a book, please contact our office at (312) 355-6300.
Is participation in the Summer Reading Program required?
No—however, it is strongly encouraged. A variety of New Student Days activities will relate to the Summer Reading Program selection, and you will also have the opportunity to choose to participate in an Alternative Spring Break program related to the book.
