What’s a “terminator”?
A terminator is what we use to cancel cable. Visit the troubleshooting page to see a picture of a terminator.
Will Campus Housing supply me with a cable cord for my TV at move-in?
The area desks do have some cable cords for residents to check our for the school year. This service is on a first-come, first-serve basis, therefore Campus Housing does not guarantee that area desks will always have them to hand out. We suggest you bring your own from home or purchase one at any electronics store.
I am moving on campus soon. Will my cable be active?
Yes. Cable TV is active at move-in.
I don’t know if my roommate is opted in or not. Can you tell me?
Nope. At the time of move in all roommates should discuss Cable TV and if they want to share the cost or not. Campus Housing cannot give out any account information to anyone other than the resident themselves.
What will I need to login to Cablenet?
You will need your NetID and password (the one you use for webmail).
When I try to log into the Cablenet website, my netid doesn’t work. What should I do?
You will need to send an email to websupport@housing.uic.edu.
What if my room information is incorrect when I login to Cablenet?
Don’t worry about it! Cablenet saves your preferences under your name, not your room number.
What if I change my opt-status during the semester?
UIC Campus Housing will prorate your Cable TV/Internet charges by month. Depending on when you opt back in/out, we’ll charge or bill you accordingly.
I moved to a new room. Do I need to cancel my cable in one room and activate it in my new room?
Nope. We save your Cable TV preferences under your name, so when your name switches rooms so does your preference.
I just moved to a new room, on Cablenet it says I’m opted “in” to Cable TV, but my cable is terminated! What’s going on?
The previous resident in your room was opted-out. Your room is on a list to get the Terminator taken off by building maintenance.
I e-mailed Campus Housing and cancelled my Cable TV that way. Is that okay?
Nope. The only way to cancel your Cable TV is via Cablenet.
I cancelled my cable via Cablenet, and now I want my Cable back. I e-mailed Campus Housing to do it, is that okay?
Nope. The only way to activate your Cable TV is via Cablenet.
I have a question about Cablenet that the website doesn’t answer. What do I do?
