Curriculum
The Addams-Starr Institute is dedicated to creating and finding
meaningful experiences for its fellows. The list below represents
examples of these experiences. If you're interested in contributing to
the curriculum, please contact Richard Payton at payton@uic.edu.
- Leadership Lunches – monthly lunches with prominent campus, city and state leaders
- National & International Forums – the Institute invites national and international leaders to speak and engage participants on an issue
- Faculty Discourse – UIC faculty members invite fellows into their homes to discuss issues over dinner
- Late Night Discussions – fellows gather to further explore and discuss what they have learned and how to move forward in action
- State & Local Government Experiences – fellows travel to state and civic government institutions to experience and interact with political leaders
- Continued Civic Engagement – fellows will apply their understanding of and passion for social justice to their own proactive community programs
- Research Presentation Dinner – in groups of four, fellows will research an approved issue critical to the City of Chicago and present a possible action plan
- Graduation Reception – final event of the year that honors graduates as they receive the distinction of Addams-Starr Fellow
